How to keep your energy up in the winter

Especially in winter I notice that I have less energy. In the morning it is still so dark and I notice that I really suffer from less energy. I looked for ways to make me feel better.

Winter dip

I really am someone who can get into a terrible winter slump. I sometimes call myself a summer person. It’s not that I can’t take the cold. it’s more the dark days that can make me a bit gloomy.

Still, I’m managing to climb out of that winter dip better and better, and really trying to have enough energy to just do fun things too. I make sure despite the cold and early dark evenings that I get outside a lot. I try to drink enough water and I exercise at home.

We also make sure we keep the house cozy, so evening candles go on. Anything to keep out that winter dip and have enough energy.

Good night’s sleep

I actually sleep pretty well in the winter, I do wake up more often. I still feel cold sometimes, but then I snuggle into my thick comforter. Still, I always have trouble getting out of bed in the morning and am really tired then. This must be because it is still dark and cold.

I found a useful article with tips against fatigue. The bottom line is that fatigue has to do with so many things than just the fact that it’s still dark when I need to get up:

  1. Don’t exceed your limits
  2. Provide rest and relaxation
  3. Drink lots of water
  4. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables
  5. Exercise enough
  6. Get enough sleep

I found this an enlightening and clear article. You can find the full article here.

Tips to get more energy

So to get more energy in the winter, I try to sleep well and exercise, but what else can I (and maybe you) do??
